Dear Parents,
Today in class we did the following:
1) Vocabulary words 1 - 15.
2) Homework: Vocabulary words 1 - 15 x 4, defs x 1, 5 sentences using two vocabulary words.
1. civilization (n.)- an advanced state of development of a society as judged by such things as having a system of government and laws, using a written language, and keeping written records
2. complex (adj.)- difficult to understand, and/or having many connected parts
3. blunder (n.)- a silly or careless mistake
4. envy (v./n.)-a feeling of wanting what someone else has
5. inspire (v.)- to stimulate or influence (someone to do something) by stirring the emotions
6. rustle (v.)- to make soft, hissing sounds like things rubbing together
7. strategy (n.)- a plan, method, or series of actions meant to perform a particular goal or effect
8. enemy (n.)- one who hates or wants to harm another
9. wild beast (n.)- any animal other than a human, especially a mammal with four legs
10. primitive (adj.)-having to do with an early stage or a condition that is not developed
11. simple (adj.)- easy to do or understand; not complicated
12. Mayan people (n.)- a member of an ancient Indian civilization of Mexico and Central America whose remains were discovered by Europeans in the 1500s
13. goal (n.)- a result or end that a person wants and works for; aim or purpose
14. stakes (n.)- one's share or interest in something
15. modern (adj.)- having to do with the present or current times
